Tape is first and foremost a House club. Tape night is every Friday night and while House is the main agenda we are experimenting with Disco, Dubstep and of course variations of Techno. Saturday nights we are working with promoters as we do with Gabriel and Giampiero for Hip Hop Don't Stop every first Saturday of each month and there are more regular Saturday parties to come in the Fall.
We set out to create a venue for DJ's, meaning by that; we do not book successful producers for DJ sets, we book DJ's who more often then not are also well know for their productions but have the experience and understanding of this long form composition. Our goal as a musical platform is to conserve the art of creating and exciting composition with two (or three) turntables and a mixer... and a few hours.
As far as infrastructure goes, most important was to create a warm sounding environment, as this is a part of the club everyone consumes, even if they don't drink anything, dance, talk to anyone etc... they hear the sound and they take that with them. Since the genres of music we love are more soulful, utilise more vocals and samples of real instruments the resonance of the space was adapted with ceiling acoustic panels, wood dance floor and padded walls. Through this clear idea of what the space needs to sound like we found co-operation with Funktion-One an ideal one. The boys from FO loved the space and agreed to use it as a "showroom" for their sound.
The space is very modular and it was intended to function this way, one can get lost and find a new corner that wasn't there before. Hope you like. Cheers.
